In tube.tracker®, a container is used to represent a site where racks are stored. Say, for example, there are two refrigerators that store racks. There will then be two containers in tube.tracker®, one to represent each refrigerator.
  1. Click on Containers in the left-hand menu under the Maintenance column.
    Manage containers menu

  2. From here you can add, deactivate, reactivate, and edit containers.
    Manage containers main screen

Add a New Container

  1. Say, for example, that you have started using a storage locker to hold racks. To keep track of racks that are in this locker, you can add a new container by using the manage containers page. At the bottom of the manage containers page, you will see the words Add New Container, followed by fields for the ID, Name, Expire Time, and Size of the container.
    Add new container

  2. In these boxes, type in the desired new container description and press Add New Container button to add the new container.
    • ID: Input any collection of letters and numbers you would use to identify that container. In this example, LOCKERA is used. Any choice of ID is fine as long as it is unique.
    • Name: Descriptive name for the container. This is the name users will see when they add a new rack to that container so be sure to make it recognizable. Storage Locker A, for example, describes this particular locker
    • Expire Time: Number of days racks will remain active when stored in this container. Since a temporary storage locker is used in this example, racks are expected to stay here for only one day. Note: Using an Expire Time of 0 days will result in racks immediately expiring when added to the container.
    • Size: Maximum capacity for the container. This is the number of racks the container can hold. If there is no specific size or you do not wish to use the container capacity feature, type in 0.
  3. Once you have made these choices, click Add New Container. The manage container screen will refresh and the new container will be displayed under the heading labeled Active Containers.

Deactivate a Container

If a container is no longer being used, you may deactivate it so that tube.tracker® users will no longer be able to work with that container. On the manage containers page, the containers that are currently active are listed under Active Containers. Find the container you wish to deactivate and click the Deactivate button. This container will be moved to the Inactive Containers section, and can no longer be used.

Reactivate an Inactive Container

Sometimes, you may wish to reactivate a container after it has been deactivated, so that users can use it again. On the manage containers page, the containers that are currently inactive are listed under Inactive Containers. Find the container you wish to reactivate and click the Activate button. This container will be moved to the Active Containers section, and can now be used once again.

Edit a Container

After a container as been added to tube.tracker® you have the ability to edit it's properties.

  1. From the manage containers screen, find the container you wish to edit and click the Edit button associated with it.
    Edit container

  2. Once the Edit Container screen has appeared, you can modify any of it's settings. See the Add a New Container section for a description of all available fields
  3. After you have finished editing the container's settings, click the Update Container button to apply the changes.
